Orthodontics for Children

Dr. Coleman and the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommend that all Syracuse children have a check-up with an orthodontist by the time they reach age seven, for early detection of any potential problems.

By the age seven, some of the permanent teeth have erupted, so that most children have a mix of adult and baby teeth. Early intervention can make a dramatic impact on establishing the proper bite foundation.

At this stage of mixed dentition, we can spot potential orthodontic problems related to jaw growth and eruption of adult teeth. Some growth-related orthodontic problems are easier to correct when they are identified early, while the facial bones are still growing.

An early exam allows us to determine how and when a child's particular jaw and/or dental problems should be corrected for the optimal results. Early treatment, or phase one therapy, may be needed to create a better environment to idealize the bite for the patient or possibly create an environment to elevate treatment forever.

An early orthodontic examination does not always result in immediate treatment. After evaluating your child, we may simply want to monitor your child periodically while the permanent teeth erupt and the jaws and face continue to develop.

Orthodontics for Teens

Most orthodontic problems are ideally treated during adolescence. Usually, most or all permanent teeth are erupted and patients are at one of their most active phases of growth.

If you have a teen in or near Syracuse who would like to improve their smile, this is a great time to correct most problems, as the jaws are actively growing and their growth can be most easily modified during this time.

In order to minimize patient involvement during the treatment process, we will work very hard to maximize ideal treatment goals with adolescent patients.

Orthodontics for Adults

Healthy teeth can be moved at any age, and it is never too late to improve your smile.

The Coleman Orthodontics team works with all of our adult patients to solve their orthodontic concerns and achieve their smile goals. In fact, one in every five patients at Coleman Orthodontics is over the age of 21.

Why Should You Consider Orthodontic Treatment?

Straight Teeth Are Healthy Teeth

When Dr. Coleman aligns your teeth, it’s easier to keep them clean by flossing and brushing, which in turn helps to prevent other oral issues, including some that can severely impact your overall health.

Straight Smiles Create Confidence & Raise Self-Esteem

Orthodontic treatment from Coleman Orthodontics can help boost your self-confidence, give you a better quality of life, and allow you to smile without embarrassment.

Untreated Oral Issues Can Get Worse

Delaying necessary orthodontic treatment can lead to long-term health issues that will wind up costing you more in the end.

Coleman Orthodontics recognizes that children, teens, and adults will all have different dental and orthodontic needs, requiring a different level of attention and care.

Dr. Coleman and his team work diligently with each of our patients to ensure you receive the most appropriate treatment for your orthodontic needs.
